Nuremberg

Today we went to Nuremberg.

The parade ground for the National Socialists during party rallies.

Inside the building built by Hitler opposite the parade ground across the river.

Imperial Castle – Kaiserburg.

The buildings around Market Square.

Our Lady’s Church - Frauenkirche

National Musuem

St Lawrence’s Church - Lorenzkirche

Fountain in Market Square

We are now travelling through the Main Danube Canal a canal which is manmade joining the Main River and the Danube River. It is 106 miles long in Germany connecting the North Sea and the Black Sea and opened in 1992. It is 1,331 feet above sea level and crosses the Continental Divide and has 16 locks. This is the Leerstetten Lock which is 25 metres high. We are entering it here. Yes, the ship fits through the opening between the gate and the top of the water.

Here water is entering underneath the wall you can see at the far end.

The control tower.

These are different points they can attach a rope as the boat rises or falls. This lock is filling with water with our ship rising as it does.

Now the lock is full and we are on our way as the gate ahead drops down to allow our passage.

It is just amazing what can be achieved in the locks in only about 20 minutes. The power of water takes on a new meaning here.

Till tomorrow.
