Bamburg

Yesterday we went to Bamberg. Bamberg claims to be the second city to introduce in 1460 the new process book printing.

This is Neptune.

The old town hall built on an artificial island in the middle of the river ‘Regnitz’ dating to the 14th century. Legend has it that the bishop did not want to give a millimetre of land to the citizens, and the town hall is said to be the only construction of its kind in Germany. The paintings are in baroque style.

The imperial cathedral Kaiserdom.

The Old Court.

The new residence.

The Black Madonna from the Cathedral.

This is where they filmed the movie the Three Musketeers.

The Rose Garden of the New Residence.

Isn’t this building amazing, just like the china ware.

Klein Venedig – Little Venice this is where the fisherman originally lived, the building to the right is the old slaughter house where the waste was pushed into the river, you can imagine the smell in this area in the medieval ages.

Tonight we start travelling on the Main Danube Canal a man made canal which links the Main and Danube rivers and we travel through locks approximately 25 metres high we can not imagine what these will be like, apparently they take 1 hour to operate.
