Travel to Sete from French Riveria Toulon

Today we left the Franch Riveria of Toulon behind and took the no highway, winding track to Sete.

We drove through Camargue National Park which was really disappointing for Kevin and his love of bush walking as this national park was just a huge marsh land with no where to stop and definitely no where to walk. We did see these horses there and that was about it other than a few birds.

Then it was on to Arles which was another amazing village. This is the Hotel De Ville (Town Hall).

The Sainte Trophime Cathedral with it's 12th century Romansque facade.

Then we went to the Roman Theatre built late in the first century. It could hold 10,000 spectators.

This is the Amphitheatre it could hold 20,000 people.

Housework French style this lady doing her ironing on the balcony opposite the Roman Ruins.

These is Constantine's Bath House built in the 4th century.

The Cloister of Sainte Trophime 12th century.

Just look at the wear on the edge of this well from all the use it has received over the years, it felt like it was made of marble.

These were the Cryptoporticos of Arles were vestiges for sheltering shops and arcades and are today 6 metres underground. When the roman colony was founded in 46BC by Julius Cesar a huge portico of pillars surrounding a paved public square and a monumental complex was built.

When then drove on to Sete where are accommodation for the night is. This is a sample of the roads to get into the centre of the cities where most of our motels have been. The small gaps between the cars are filled with bikes as they rush to the front of the line to go when the green light appears. I just sit there and hold my breath.

We had dinner on the side walk of Sete with these views. It was really nice and I had the most delicous Fraise and Melon slushy drink, I can still taste it with my pasta of course, when in Rome as they say.
