Driving to Switzerland

As we drive to Switzerland today, we will leave behind the beautiful Alsace region of vineyards.

We stopped at a village called Riquewihr

The wells in these villages are so old, and as I stand and look at them it is hard to imagine the lives of the women who would have used these for their daily water source.

This house at No 15 would have to be on a record for the smallest dwelling.

These amazing cobble stoned streets are so beautiful to look at but they really make your feet tired when walking on them all the time. Kevin has actually had to buy another pair of shoes today as they are really hard on shoes as well, I think I will have to do them same before we get home.

The detail that some of the shops go to displaying their goods is amazing and they just look so wonderful.

Isn't this a beautiful post office

We are amazed the hills that they grow vines on here, there is no space not utilised for wine making.

We then called into the village of Kaysersberg

This well is dated 1753

Note the high wall around the village, again it is hard to imagine this cute little villages being under attack and needing these walls to keep the citizens safe.

We then went to Colmar

This building is 14th century

Petite Venice area.

This building is dated 1606

Our room in Switzerland, the bed style is very unusual, two king singles bedside each other for a king bed with two separate doonas folded up on top.

We are still finding different toilets and showers in just about every establishment we go to, you would not believe how many ways you can use bathroom plumbing.

I think people of the world must hate paying parking fees. We got to the second village above and they wanted 2€ to park for the day. As we were looking for the pay station some kind tourist called us and said here, have ours. We took it and it was todays date, so we used it and then were happy to pass it on to another fellow traveller as we were leaving - he too was very pleased.

Here we are in Switzerland. It seems to be expensive. One Swiss Franc costs about $AU1.14. Here I was expecting to find Lindt Chocolate cheaper in the land where it is made, and you can buy it cheaper in Australia! We found a cheaper brand and Lee-Anne even sampled another couple of squares so it must be okay.
